Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about lessons? Here are some of the things students and parents often want to know before getting started.
- 01The adult conversation lessons are designed for anyone who would like to feel more confident speaking English in everyday life. They are particularly suitable for learners who already understand some English but would like more opportunities to practise speaking, improve their fluency and pronunciation, expand their everyday vocabulary, and communicate more naturally and confidently.Whether you would like to feel more comfortable socialising, travelling, meeting new people or simply having everyday conversations in English, the lessons can be adapted to your individual goals.
- 02My main focus is not Business English. The adult classes are centred on natural, everyday conversation and are designed to help you become more confident and comfortable using English in real-life situations.Lessons may include everyday vocabulary and expressions, pronunciation, fluency, listening and speaking practice, as well as conversations around topics that are relevant and interesting to you.The aim is to help you communicate naturally rather than simply learn English from a textbook.
- 03Yes.One-to-one lessons provide a relaxed and personalised environment where the lesson can be adapted specifically to your level, interests and goals. We can focus more closely on the areas you would particularly like to improve, whether that is confidence, pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency or simply having more opportunities to speak English. The pace of the lesson can also be adjusted to suit you.
- 04Yes. Small group conversation classes are also planned. These sessions provide a friendly and supportive environment where you can practise having conversations with other learners, listen to different speakers and become more confident responding naturally in real-life discussions.Group sizes will be kept small so that everyone has plenty of opportunity to participate and speak. Please enquire for current group availability.
- 05You do not need to speak perfect English.Learners come with different levels of confidence and speaking ability, and one of the first things we can do is discuss your current level and what you would most like to improve. If you already understand some English but find speaking difficult, hesitate during conversations or simply need more regular speaking practice, these lessons may be particularly helpful. The most important thing is being willing to practise.
- 06Yes.Pronunciation can be an important part of our conversation lessons.Rather than trying to change your identity or accent, the focus is on helping you speak clearly and confidently so that other people can understand you easily. We can work naturally on pronunciation, sounds, stress, rhythm and commonly used words or expressions as they arise during conversation.
- 07Absolutely.In fact, helping learners become more confident speaking English is one of the main aims of the adult conversation classes. Many learners understand much more English than they feel comfortable speaking. It is completely normal to worry about making mistakes or saying the wrong thing.Lessons are intended to be relaxed, patient and supportive so that you have the freedom to practise without feeling judged. Mistakes are simply part of learning, and confidence often grows naturally when you have regular opportunities to speak.
- 08Absolutely.I warmly welcome learners from Asia as well as students from around the world.I have extensive international teaching experience, including teaching adult English conversation classes in Japan and working within education in both Brunei and Malaysia. These experiences have given me the opportunity to work with learners and educators from a wide variety of cultural and language backgrounds. My aim is always to create a friendly, respectful and comfortable learning environment where every learner feels supported.
- 09Sessions for young learners can include phonics and letter sounds, early reading skills, pronunciation, speaking and listening, vocabulary development, reading confidence, and English communication skills. The exact focus will depend on the individual child and the areas where they would benefit from additional support. My aim is to create positive, engaging lessons that help children develop strong foundations in English while also building their confidence.
- 10I offer English and phonics lessons for children aged 4–12, with sessions tailored to each child’s age, ability and individual learning needs.Lessons can support areas such as phonics, early reading, pronunciation, speaking, listening, vocabulary and confidence in English, helping children build strong foundations while enjoying the learning process. As every child develops differently, I adapt the pace, activities and level of support to help each learner feel comfortable, engaged and confident.
- 11Every child learns differently, so I believe lessons should reflect the needs of the individual learner.Throughout my teaching career, I have assessed children's language development and adapted programmes according to their ability, confidence and learning needs.Activities, pace and teaching approaches can therefore be adjusted depending on the child. Most importantly, I want children to feel comfortable, encouraged and successful while learning English.
